DRILL RIDE CLINICS

Drill riding or equestrian drill riding is a team activity. It originated with mounted military units as a way to practice skills.

Teams can range from four to over twentyand team members wear matching clothing and use similar tack, leg wraps and grooming styles.

Drill teams can be formed by a group of like-minded horse riders, within a stable, through Pony Club, a local riding club, other organizations or as a school activity.

The goal is to coordinate a group of horses and riders to perform precise manoeuvres this can be to music or not. The elements of a drill ride are often pulled from dressage and other disciplines such as reining and even jumping. Some drill teams only perform to entertain audiences at events, while others may compete in drill riding competitions.

    DRESSAGE

Its purpose is to strengthen and supple the horse while maintaining a calm and attentive demeanour (look/behaviour)

Training offers riders a progressive and interrelated system through which to develop the horse over time.

COLLECTION- balance and lightness of the forehand from increased engagement

STRAIGHTNESS – improved alignment and equal, lateral suppleness on both reins

IMUPLSION – engagement and the desire to go forward

CONTACT – connection and acceptance of the bit through acceptance of the aids

SUPPLENESS – elasticity and freedom from anxiety

    RHYTHM – regularity and tempo

Each Dressage test is a series of movements that must be performed by the horse and rider. Each movement is scored by a judge on a scale of 0-10. Special tests are also written for musical freestyle and many more other types.

    SHOW JUMPING

This activity requires a high level of teamwork between horse and rider, while testing the rider’s skill and the horse or pony’s power, scope, speed, athleticism, and carefulness.

With training and practice, competitors work together with their team mate to accomplish their goals.
